Rebuild America through Judo!

During these tough economic times, our country will truly be put to the test. Personal values like honor, perseverance and friendship or lack thereof will direct where our collective futures are headed. There is no quick solution, nothing that money or legislation can magically fix. The problems we face are far more fundamental. A nation is only as strong as the people it is comprised of. What this country needs are strong individuals who come up against adversity with gusto, can be strong without being mean and will work tirelessly toward a goal. The practice of the sport of Judo instills these qualities in its practitioners. In addition to being a physically demanding and challenging sport, it also challenges a student’s mental stamina and problem solving abilities. In the pursuit of Judo, lasting friendships are formed and a small army of individuals emerges, ready to take on whatever problems life brings on next.

The Judo America Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization set up to provide scholarships to kids from families that otherwise would not be able to afford to take Judo classes. It also helps young athletes compete at tournaments around the United States, since travel and competition expenses can prevent an athlete from competing, especially if the family cannot afford it. There is a list of families in Grass Valley who are in need. This list includes single parents with kids who cannot afford after school activities for their children, nor can they afford to stay home and spend time with them. More and more young people are turning to television, video games, drugs and alcohol when they do not have a positive outlet and the sense of family and community starts to deteriorate. As the community ages, these kids will be our future leaders.

To give you an idea of how much of a difference a small contribution can make, one child can be sponsored for one year of Judo for $800. All contributions are tax-deductable. When you contribute to our organization, we will list you as a sponsor on our website and provide you with a report at the end of the year to document the lives that were enriched by your generosity. You can mail donations to JAF at the address below, stop by Grass Valley Judo & Fitness for a credit card payment, or call us to process a credit card payment over the phone.
