Weight Training

Weight Training or Strength Training is an exercise program to help you strengthen your muscles. Every movement we make involves our muscular system. When you take part in your everyday activities such as lifting a box or bag of heavy groceries, or pulling something heavy off of a shelf, you are using your muscles, and if those muscles are not strengthened, you run the risk of injury.

What are other benefits of strength training?

  • Four out of five Americans experience low back discomfort caused by being out of shape, poor posture and using only certain muscles. 80% of lower back problems appear to be preventable by strengthening the lower back and core muscles.

  • Strength training can play a major role in enhancing our overall body composition and physical appearance.

  • Unless we perform regular strength exercise, we lose more than one half pound of muscle every year after age 25. Without proper weight training stimulus, our muscles gradually decrease in size and strength- known as muscle “atrophy.”

  • Strength training also decreases resting blood pressure, builds bone density, increases our metabolism and protects against a variety of degenerative problems.
